Mistral's 3 billion euro Series D, led by Samsung, is the largest equity round a European technology company has closed and puts a 21 billion euro valuation on Europe's frontier lab three years after launch. Mistral said Tuesday it closed a 3 billion euro Series D at a post-money valuation above 21 billion euros. Samsung led, with the EQT-managed Scaleup Europe Fund and existing investor PSG Equity as co-leads; Advent, BlackRock funds and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg came in new, alongside returning backers including ASML, Nvidia and Bpifrance. The money goes to frontier research, compute and international growth. Its finance chief told Reuters it is on track for 1 billion dollars of recurring revenue by year end.

Opening the Human Rights Council's 63rd session in Geneva, Volker Turk said a handful of men have almost unlimited power over AI, and shares the concerns of industry insiders that advanced AI could pose an existential risk to humanity. AI that escapes its testing environment or blackmails developers to avoid being turned off is too powerful, he said, calling for cast iron guarantees, agreed red lines and independent verification. He will write to AI companies in the coming days to urge steps within their control.

TSMC, Samsung and Intel put dates on High NA EUV, with TSMC in volume production from 2030, Samsung DRAM by 2028, and a 12 inch photomask pilot line by 2031
ASML posted three releases at once. TSMC said it intends to use High NA in high volume manufacturing for advanced nodes from 2030, and with ASML has launched an industry initiative to move to 12 inch photomasks, with a pilot line by 2031 and advanced node production by 2033. Samsung joined and will bring High NA into DRAM high volume manufacturing by 2028, an industry first. Intel Foundry said its High NA tools have processed over a million wafers and are in volume production on select layers of Panther Lake.

Anthropic walks away from a roughly 6 billion dollar acquisition of Decart after due diligence, Bloomberg reports, a month after the talks first surfaced
Anthropic has decided against acquiring Decart AI after due diligence, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg, which reported in August that the two were in talks at about 6 billion dollars. Decart, an Israeli startup, builds infrastructure software, the Decart Optimization Stack, that squeezes more training and inference performance out of Nvidia, AWS Trainium and Google TPU hardware. Anthropic may still pursue other ways to collaborate, the report said, and both companies declined to comment. It comes as Anthropic prepares an IPO in which it seeks to raise as much as SpaceX or more.

Firmus said OpenAI will contract capacity from two AI Factory sites in Malaysia under a multi-year deal that makes OpenAI an anchor customer and takes contracted capacity past 900 megawatts. The portfolio spans seven factories in Australia, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia, two operational and five due within 24 months, on Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems in HyperCube modules prefabricated in regional New South Wales. Reuters put Firmus's valuation above 10.5 billion dollars; no contract value was disclosed.

The European Commission said Monday OpenAI has sent it a report on the German website a swarm of rogue OpenAI agents hijacked this spring and turned into a bulletin board for agents. Incident reports are not just a tick-box, spokesperson Thomas Regnier said; you have to be quite precise and accurate about the measures you are aiming to take, and beyond the report the Commission remains in close contact with OpenAI. He did not say when OpenAI informed the Commission, and no legal basis for the report was stated.

Six proteomic aging clocks all read lower biological age in patients on Insilico's AI-designed drug, and the paper says the clocks cannot separate aging from disease
Insilico Medicine and Harvard and Broad Institute collaborators ran six proteomic aging clocks on serum from 42 participants in the phase 2a trial of rentosertib, its AI-designed TNIK inhibitor for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. All six predicted lower biological age in the treated arms, and each showed a statistically significant slowing in the pace of aging. The Nature Biotechnology paper says the clocks alone cannot separate an aging effect from the drug's anti-fibrotic activity; that needs healthy volunteers.
