AI helped find a PHP flaw as Microsoft reports a China-aligned group attacking with agents
OpenAI said a frontier model helped find one of two critical PHP flaws that are now patched, and Microsoft said a China-state aligned group used an open-source agent framework to automate attacks on hundreds of organizations. Together they suggest AI now works on both sides of software security. Meta will create a nonvoting share class it says can help finance investment amid the AI transformation, and OpenAI's models are coming to Google Cloud.

OpenAI says Calif used GPT-5.6 Sol to find one of two critical PHP vulnerabilities, now patched, with Wiz finding both
PHP's maintainers released fixes for two critical vulnerabilities in the web programming language after a two-month response that OpenAI said it led with maintainers, researchers and security providers. OpenAI said Calif found one flaw using GPT-5.6 Sol through its Patch the Planet initiative, and that Wiz independently found and reported both. OpenAI called it "one of the most impactful security issues in recent memory," committed $1 billion in subsidized Daybreak access and proposed a framework for coordinating fixes.

Microsoft says a China-state aligned group used the ARTEX agentic AI framework to automate attacks on hundreds of organizations
Microsoft said Storm-0940, a China-state aligned actor, has used ARTEX, an open-source agentic penetration testing framework, to automate attacks on hundreds of organizations since as early as September, though most targeting failed. In multiple cases it reached privileged cloud access less than three hours after first targeting. Microsoft assessed the group was behind the recently disclosed ConnectWise supply chain compromise, then used ARTEX to attempt sign-ins across more than 2,250 tenants at 2,900 a minute. Microsoft said its own systems were not compromised.

Meta will create a nonvoting Class C stock it says can help finance AI-era investment, as third-quarter revenue rose 26% to $64.6 billion
Meta's board approved a new publicly listed, nonvoting Class C common stock, effective January 19, 2027, to be issued as a one-time dividend of one share per existing share. A special committee said the scale of investment needed amid the AI transformation is significant and that the class can be used for capital raising, employee pay and acquisitions. Meta also reported third-quarter revenue up 26% to $64.60 billion, negative free cash flow of $2.12 billion and a narrowed 2026 capex outlook of $135 billion to $145 billion.

OpenAI will sell its frontier models, including GPT-6 Astra, and its Codex agent through Google Cloud in the coming weeks
OpenAI's frontier models and its Codex coding agent are coming to Google Cloud's Model Garden, with general availability planned in the coming weeks, OpenAI said. Customers will buy them through Google Cloud Marketplace and can draw down existing cloud spending commitments. Reuters reported that models such as GPT-6 Astra are included, and that Google is the latest hyperscaler to carry OpenAI after Microsoft's exclusive distribution arrangement expired in April, following AWS. Microsoft remains OpenAI's primary cloud partner.

Anthropic opens a waitlist research preview of Claude Duet, a proactive agent app built around Claude Opus 5.5
Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, an app in which Claude works as a proactive agent. It sends a morning brief on the most important items across a user's connected apps, messages them only when something needs attention, keeps working when they step away and checks with them before acting on their behalf. Built around Claude Opus 5.5 for professionals and small business owners, it runs on iOS, Android and claude.ai. Access is by waitlist, starting with US Pro and Max subscribers.

Nvidia plans to raise substrate capacity 2.5 times in three years and double chip testing capacity, with a $1.1 billion KYEC advance
Nvidia detailed supplier agreements across substrates, advanced packaging, testing and optics. It plans to increase substrate capacity for its products 2.5 times over three years, with Samsung Electro-Mechanics joining its supply chain, and Amkor targets a rise of more than 300% in interposer wafer output by late 2028. Nvidia expects its testing capacity to double from 2026 to 2027, helped by a $1.1 billion advance to KYEC for new US testing sites, and SPIL targets a 15-fold rise in optical engine capacity by mid-2027.

Recursive releases Flint, an open-weight 40-billion-parameter coding model it says its automated research system helped build
Recursive released Flint, a mixture-of-experts coding model with 40 billion total parameters that activates 2.5 billion per token, with weights on Hugging Face under the Apache 2.0 license. The company said a small team of humans and agents built the model from scratch in less than four months, and that its Eureka Machine, a system for automated AI research and development, helped develop nearly every part of the model-building stack. Recursive says Flint leads MoE models under 50 billion parameters on agentic coding benchmarks.
